Senior place-kicker Dominic Bourgeois was selected as a Lou Groza Award "Star of the Week" for his performance in the win over FIU last week. Bourgeois was also tabbed earlier this week as the CUSA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Bourgeois, who is 14th nationally in FG made percentage (.909), keyed MTSU's road win over FIU last week with 14 points, including four made field goals and two from 50 or more yards. The 14 points scored equaled the sixth most ever recorded in a single game at MTSU and is the most in a game since Crews Holt matched the record of 17 points scored against WKU in 2018 (t16th most by a kicker in FBS this season).
The Award is named for National Football League Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
